Birds of the Upper Cordillera: A Recent Visit to Sumigar Bridge
On August 26, a birding trip took place at Sumigar Bridge in Banaue, Ifugao, Philippines. Two participants, Lena Hartebrodt and Jonathan Klawitter, spent 15 minutes observing the local birdlife. Their stationary observation from the bridge yielded an impressive species count of 5.
The participants spotted a total of three Ridgetop Swiftlet, which is a species known for its swift flight. They also saw a Negros Leaf Warbler, a rare sighting in the region. The Chestnut-faced Babbler, a common resident in the area, was seen three times, while the Luzon Redstart and the Orange-bellied Flowerpecker each appeared once. Both of the latter two species are known for their bright plumage.
This brief observation provides a glimpse into the rich avifauna of the Upper Cordillera region. Further research and exploration are necessary to better understand and preserve the biodiversity of this unique ecosystem.
