Bird Count in Estancia De Lorenzo San Mateo Reveals Diverse Fauna
On August 26, 2025, a trip to Estancia De Lorenzo San Mateo in Rizal, Philippines, yielded a fascinating glimpse into the region's bird population. One observer, Jorge De Ramos, spent two hours and five minutes traversing 0.68 kilometers of the property.
During this time, 14 species of birds were recorded. Among the spotted birds were the Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon) with three sightings, the Coppersmith Barbet with six observations, and the Eurasian Tree Sparrow, seen at an impressive 25 instances.
A few migratory or resident species that caught the observer's attention were the Golden-bellied Gerygone, with three sightings, and the Black-naped Oriole (Philippine) with a single observation.
A mix of woodland and urban birds like the Yellow-vented Bulbul, seen four times, and the Crested Myna, spotted only once, suggests the area is a crossroads for birds of different habitats.
The comments provided by the observer, such as noting the Rose-ringed Parakeets flying by in a flock, add insight into the observer's experiences during the trip and give readers a deeper appreciation for the variety of birdlife in the area.
