Birds in the Hills of Davao del Sur
On a 1.8-kilometer trail through Mt. Boribid, Tibulo, in Davao del Sur, the Philippines, two bird enthusiasts spent five hours counting a total of 34 observations of 18 bird species. Led by Alan Salter, they identified various species of doves, barbets, and flycatchers in their natural habitat.
The team spotted the Philippine Cuckoo-Dove, a relatively rare sighting, with three individuals recorded. Other notable observations include five Ridgetop Swiftlets, which were likely seen in their natural habitat. Two Coppersmith Barbets were recorded, with one singing. The team also observed a Philippine Falconet, which was spotted perched on a dead tree, allowing the observers a clear view of its striking plumage.
Some passerines observed during the trip include the Long-tailed Shrike, with five individuals counted, and the Turquoise Flycatcher, which was spotted once. Warblers also made an appearance, with eight Warbling White-eyes counted.
These observations add to the existing knowledge of the bird species found in the Mt. Boribid area and highlight the importance of preserving the natural habitat of these species.
