Birding Spotlights at Dawis Road Fishpools
On August 25, 2025, 2 observers led by Gina Arche explored the Dawis Road fishpools in Digos City, Davao del Sur, Philippines. The birding experience, lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes, covered an area of approximately 0.3 kilometers.
The observations revealed a diverse range of birds, with a total of 21 species recorded. These included resident birds such as the Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon) and the Zebra Dove. Several waterbird species were also spotted, including the Eurasian Moorhen and the White-breasted Waterhen.
Wading birds dominated the observation list, with the Pied Stilt, Common Sandpiper, and Wood Sandpiper being among the most common species. Herons, on the other hand, were also present in good numbers, with the Black-crowned Night Heron, Little Egret, Striated Heron, Javan Pond-Heron, and Great Egret all recorded.
Other notable sightings included the Blue-tailed Bee-eater, Collared Kingfisher, Philippine Pied-Fantail, Philippine Jungle Crow, Pacific Swallow, and Asian Glossy Starling.
