Diverse Birdlife Spotted in Urban Diliman
On August 25, 2025, bird enthusiast Kierloyd Vince Schofield embarked on a 1 hour and 48 minute birding adventure in the National Science Complex of the University of the Philippines in Diliman. With the Urban area as a habitat, Kierloyd spotted a total of 16 bird species during his excursion.
The observation list featured an assortment of birds, with the Coppersmith Barbet and Collared Kingfisher being the most notable sightings. The Eastern Cattle-Egret, with its distinctive white plumage, was observed in small numbers, as were the Philippine Pygmy Woodpecker and the Philippine Pied-Fantail. The Philippine Jungle Crow and Pacific Swallow each had a single sighting, while the Philippine Pygmy Woodpecker had a solitary appearance.
On the other hand, certain bird species proved more abundant, like the Yellow-vented Bulbul, with 17 individuals observed, and the Black-naped Oriole with six sightings. Other notable sightings included the Eurasian Tree Sparrow, which made an appearance four times, and the Coppersmith Barbet with two sightings.
The Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon) and the Golden-bellied Gerygone also made the observation list, indicating a mix of both urban and native bird species in the area.
