Morning Birdwatching Session Yields Six Species in Capiz Province
A recent birding trip to a location near Roxas City in Capiz Province, Philippines, on August 25, 2025, yielded observations of six bird species in a 34-minute stationary protocol observation session. Ravie Piansay made up the sole observer for the trip.
Local birds such as the Zebra Dove (Tetraophasis obscurus) and Yellow-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier) dominated the species list with counts of five and four birds respectively.
Asian Glossy Starling (Aplonis panayensis), a native and endemic species in the Philippines' western islands, was also observed with a count of five individuals. In contrast, the Garden Sunbird (Aethopyga eximia) and Chestnut Munia (Lonchura atricapilla) were seen in smaller numbers, each observed only once. The trip list also included four Eurasian Tree Sparrows (Passer montanus).
These observations showcase the diversity of birds present in and around Roxas City and highlight the importance of continued conservation efforts for the region's avifauna.
