Winged Friends in the Philippines: A Morning in Camiguin's Mantigue Sanctuary
On a sunny morning in Camiguin's beautiful Mantigue Sanctuary on Magsaysay Island, a group of bird enthusiasts embarked on a 45-minute observation trip. Led by Diuvs De Jesus, the group of five travelers covered a distance of approximately 0.878 kilometers, spotting a total of 3 distinct species of birds.
The participants were able to see 3 Barn Swallows (Hirundo rustica) flying overhead, indicating the birds' active presence in the area. A solitary Yellow-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier) was also observed, likely foraging for food on the sanctuary's lush vegetation.
The highlight of the trip was the presence of 4 vibrant Garden Sunbirds (Aethopyga gouldiae), adding pops of color to the scene with their beautiful plumage.
The diversity of species spotted during this brief observation trip highlights the rich biodiversity of the Philippines and the importance of protected areas like the Mantigue Sanctuary.
