Winged Visitors Along the Guiuan-Sulangan Road
A single bird enthusiast, Juan Mesquida, spent a morning in the field along the Inland Path Near Calicoan Villa, Guiuan-Sulangan Road in Eastern Samar, Philippines, observing a diverse selection of bird species.
Over the course of an hour and seventeen minutes, Juan identified nine different species in a relatively short distance of 0.872 km. His travels took place on August 24th.
Among the species seen were White-eared Brown-Doves and Pacific Swallows, the latter in groups of four, indicating a strong social presence. The Asian Glossy Starling was observed in the largest quantity, with 50 individuals recorded.
Birds such as the Coppersmith Barbet, Barred Rail, and Black-naped Oriole (Philippine) showed themselves in smaller numbers, highlighting the variety of avifauna present in the area.
In addition to these birds, a number of more commonly seen species were recorded, including Philippine Bulbuls, Yellow-vented Bulbuls, and Eurasian Tree Sparrows.
