Birds Abound in the Foothills of Mt. Kitanglad
On January 31, a group of bird enthusiasts, led by Helen Ong, ventured into the Mt. Kitanglad Range Natural Park in Sumilao, Bukidnon, Philippines. Their birding trip resulted in an impressive 13 species of birds spotted within a single hour and 41 minutes.
According to the observation data, the team's finds included the Philippine Cuckoo-Dove, a rare sighting of two individuals. Swiftlets, including the Ridgetop and Philippine species, were also present in numbers, with multiple individuals counted. A Brahminy Kite was observed soaring overhead, a majestic sight.
Other notable sightings included several warblers, including the Long-tailed Bush Warbler and the Negros Leaf Warbler, which are less frequently spotted. Warbling White-eyes and Rufous-headed Tailorbirds were also observed in good numbers.
The team's observations also included a number of flycatchers, including the Turquoise and Little Pied species, as well as a Cinnamon Ibon and Warbling White-eyes, all of which were counted in notable numbers. A single White-cheeked Bullfinch was the only finch species spotted during the trip.
