Birdwatching Outing in Samar Island Natural Park Yields Fascinating Results
A recent birdwatching trip to the Samar Island Natural Park--Nature Trail on January 30, 2025, provided a valuable opportunity for participants to observe and record a diverse range of bird species in their natural habitat.
Led by two enthusiastic bird enthusiasts, Mads Bajarias and Lu-Ann Fuentes, the group consisted of six members and covered a distance of 1.931 kilometers, spending a total of two hours and eight minutes in the field.
The birding trip yielded an impressive total of ten different species, each of which provided a unique sighting for the participants. Some of the notable species encountered included the Philippine Trogon, an exotic sighting for many of the participants, as well as the Rufous-crowned Bee-eater, a bright and striking bird known for its distinctive plumage.
In addition to these sightings, the group observed a range of other bird species, including a Brown-breasted Kingfisher, an Azure-breasted Pitta, five Visayan Blue-Fantails, two Visayan Pygmy-Babblers, two Visayan Babblers, three Brown Tit-Babblers, one Little Slaty Flycatcher, and one Metallic-winged Sunbird.
These observations highlight the diverse and rich avifauna of the Samar Island Natural Park, and demonstrate the importance of protected areas such as this in preserving and protecting the Philippines' natural heritage.
