On January 10, 2025, a keen-eyed birding enthusiast, Peter Widmann, embarked on a 5-minute stationary observation session at Mitra Road in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines. Accompanied by an unidentified fellow observer, Peter's expedition yielded a remarkable total of 7 species, showcasing the region's avifaunal diversity.

The session began with a tantalizing sighting of Gray-rumped Swiftlets (5 individuals), followed by a flock of Ameline Swiftlets (4), which provided a thrilling glimpse into the lives of these swift and agile birds. Next, Peter and his companion spotted two individuals each of the Black-naped Monarch and Rufous-tailed Tailorbird, two species that are common in the region but always a pleasure to observe.

The team's attention was then drawn to a lone presence of an Ashy-headed Babbler, a species known for its distinctive calls and nuanced behavior. Another solitary singer, a White-vented Shama, was also observed, its melodious voice ringing out across the landscape. Finally, a single Pale Spiderhunter was spotted, its striking plumage a testament to the region's incredible biodiversity.
