Birding Bonanza in Cebu: Kurt Cabahug's Morning Odyssey
A recent birding trip to the Camputhaw-Cogon Ramos-Capitol Site in Cebu was a treat for Kurt Cabahug, who spent 57 minutes covering 1.489 kilometers of terrain. Accompanied by his own enthusiasm, Kurt spotted a total of 9 bird species during his excursion.
The morning began with a sighting of a lone Zebra Dove (Geopelia striata), its distinctive black and white stripes a beauty to behold. This was soon followed by a Pink-necked Green-Pigeon (Treron vernans), showcasing its vibrant plumage. The skies came alive with a flock of 10 Gray-rumped Swiftlets (Collocalia brevirostris), their swift, darting movements a thrill to observe.
A visit to a nearby water source yielded a Collared Kingfisher (Actenoides lindsayi), its stunning blue and white feathers a delight. The Philippine Bulbul (Hypsipetes philippinus) was another notable sighting, its melodic song filling the air.
The trees were abuzz with activity, as a mixed flock of birds included Asian Glossy Starlings (Aplonis panayensis) and Red-keeled Flowerpeckers (Dicaeum ignipectus). The Garden Sunbird (Nectarinia asiatica) was seen flitting between flowers, its bright plumage a joy to behold. The Eurasian Tree Sparrow (Passer montanus) was the most common species seen, with four individuals spotted throughout the trip.
