Birding Delights at Tripa de Galina Creek
Early risers ED Liuag embarked on a dawn birding trip to Tripa de Galina Creek in Bangkal, Makati City on January 10, 2025. Under cloudy skies with a temperature of 25°C, the low tide provided an ideal setting for spotting a variety of bird species.
In just 40 minutes, the keen observer was able to log an impressive 11 bird species. Among them were sightings of a Whiskered Tern, with its impressive 30-strong flock, and a Black-crowned Night Heron, which flew in solo. Other notable species included the Little Egret, Nankeen Night Heron, and Black-throated MagpieRobin.
Local bird varieties, such as the Zebra Dove, Ameline Swiftlet, and Golden-bellied Gerygone, were also spotted. The Pacific Swallow, with its iridescent plumage, and the Yellow-vented Bulbul, with its distinctive song, added to the trip's diverse mix. Edged species-wise were the Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Brown Shrike, and Pacific Swallow, which rounded off the day's sightings.
Commenting on the conditions, ED Liuag noted that the cloudy morning and low tide created an optimal environment for bird spotting.
