Six Species Spotted in a Flash in Palo Alto, Rizal
A birding trip that exceeded expectations, a recent excursion in Palo Alto, Rizal, yielded an impressive six species in just 11 minutes. The team of 10 bird enthusiasts, led by Chris Lotz of Birding Ecotours and Frank Murphy, blanketed the 0.15-mile area, capturing a snapshot of the region's avifauna.
The morning's highlight was undoubtedly the Pygmy Swiftlet, with an astonishing eight individuals spotted together. This impressive sighting was a testament to the area's ability to support high concentrations of birdlife.
The team also had a close encounter with a Brown-breasted Kingfisher, which, with its distinctive crown and breast markings, left no doubt about its identification. Two White-breasted Woodswallows made a brief appearance, their striking white breasts gleaming in the morning sun.
The trip was not without its surprises, however. A Brown Shrike, a Pied Bushchat, and two Gray Wagtails all made the cut, showcasing the area's remarkable biodiversity.
Thanks to the keen eyes of the observers, this brief but action-packed birding trip has provided a valuable snapshot of the region's avifauna.
