A solo birding trip in Raja Sikatuna National Park, Bohol, Philippines, on January 9, 2025, was a thrilling experience for Livi Virtudazo. Despite the early morning start, the participant was rewarded with a diverse range of bird species, showcasing the region's remarkable avifauna.

The outing began with the haunting calls of the Philippine Nightjar (heard but not visually confirmed), setting the tone for a day filled with surprises. Further exploration led to the spotting of a Pygmy Swiftlet, an exciting encounter that highlighted the park's unique microhabitats.

The Luzon Boobook and Philippine Trogon joined the party, their melodic songs echoing through the forest, while two Samar Hornbills and five Visayan Broadbills thrilled with their vibrant plumage. The Short-tailed Drongo, with its distinctive forked tail, made a memorable appearance, followed by a flock of five Philippine Jungle Crows, whose cacophony added to the excitement.
