On January 8, 2025, EDL Liuag embarked on a 10-minute birding expedition at the Makati Diversion Channel, Tripa de Galina Creek, Bangkal, Makati in the National Capital Region of Manila, Philippines. During this brief but productive trip, Liuag spotted a total of five bird species, showcasing the area's rich avifauna.

The Zebra Dove, with its distinctive black and white stripes, was the most numerous species seen, with three individuals observed. The Philippine Pied-Fantail, a bird known for its striking plumage and acrobatic abilities, made a welcome appearance, with one observed. The Yellow-vented Bulbul, with its bright yellow vent and melodious song, was also spotted, along with four Asian Glossy Starlings, known for their iridescent feathers. Rounding out the list was the Eurasian Tree Sparrow, with six individuals counted.

This trip serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving urban habitats, which can support a surprising diversity of birdlife. As EDL Liuag's observations demonstrate, the Makati Diversion Channel is a significant stopover for avian enthusiasts and a testament to the value of conservation efforts in the region.
