Batangas Pier Birding Trip Spots Brahminy Kite and Eastern Red-rumped Swallow
A solo birder, Pauline Carmel Eje, made the most of a quick 5-minute stop at Batangas Pier in the Philippines on January 9, 2025. Her brief morning excursion yielded a pair of species, both of which are common finds in the region but always exciting to spot.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus indus), with four individuals spotted soaring overhead. With their distinctive grey and reddish-brown plumage, these magnificent birds of prey are a popular sight in coastal areas.
Joined by a trio of Eastern Red-rumped Swallows (Cecropis daurica persica) flitting about, the pier proved to be a treat for Pauline, who took in the sights and sounds during her brief visit. Swallows are known for their agility, and these birds did not disappoint, darting and swooping through the air with ease.
Despite the short duration of the trip, Pauline's observations provide a glimpse into the rich birdlife that can be found in Batangas Pier, a hub of activity for avian enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
