On January 9, 2025, Justine Albao, a keen bird enthusiast, embarked on a morning birding trip to Ticao, Masbate, Philippines. For a brief 10-minute stationary observation, Justine had the opportunity to spot two fascinating bird species at Regalado's House.

The first sighting was of the Red Junglefowl (Domestic type), a species native to the region. This observation yielded a surprising 8 individuals, a testament to the area's suitability for this species. Notably, this observation highlights the accessibility of the Red Junglefowl to human settlements, as evidenced by the presence of a domesticated subspecies in this area.

In a separate sighting, Justine reported hearing the call of a single Luzon Boobook, a rare and elusive species in the region. Despite not catching a visual glimpse of the bird, the hearing of its distinctive call remains a notable observation.

This birding trip offers a glimpse into the unique birdlife found in the Philippines, highlighting the importance of preserving and protecting these habitats.
