Birding Adventure at Sidlakan Resort: Five Fascinating Species Spotted
On January 8th, 2025, a group of 10 bird enthusiasts embarked on a 28-minute birding adventure at the Sidlakan Resort in Barangay Magsaysay, Infanta, Quezon, Philippines. The participants, led by Chris Lotz of Birding Ecotours, Frank Murphy, and other experienced birders, explored the resort's scenic grounds, spotting a total of five bird species.
One of the star attractions was the Black-naped Monarch, a majestic bird with a striking black head and wings, seen by the group during their trip. Another notable sighting was the Citrine Canary-Flycatcher, known for its bright yellow plumage, which added a splash of color to the group's adventure.
The Elegant Tit, a petite songbird with a distinctive white stripe above its eye, was also spotted, while the Philippine Bulbul, a common but always fascinating sight, caught the group's attention. The highlight of the trip was the sighting of the Philippine Fairy-bluebird (cyanogastra), with its vibrant blue feathers, which was seen twice during the excursion.
Unfortunately, due to the participants' focus on spotting these fascinating species, no additional comments were provided to elaborate on their birding experience. Nevertheless, this brief report gives a glimpse into the exciting world of birding and the incredible diversity of birdlife found in the Philippines.
