A day of birding adventure unfolded on January 8, 2025, as Ashleigh Tamayo and Cooper Tamayo explored the scenic trails of Mount Natib in Morong, Bataan, Philippines. The duo's expedition, lasting for about an hour and a half, yielded an impressive list of 7 bird species.

One of the highlights of their excursion was the spotting of the majestic Brahminy Kite, with three individuals soaring overhead. The species is a common sight in coastal areas, and its presence on Mt. Natib suggests a healthy ecosystem.

The Tamayo pair also had the pleasure of observing the striking Rufous-crowned Bee-eater, with its distinctive crown and bright plumage. Five individuals were seen dashing through the underbrush, highlighting the area's importance as a habitat for this colorful species.

Other species spotted during the trip included the Gray-rumped Swiftlet, Yellow-vented Bulbul, Garden Sunbird, and Eurasian Tree Sparrow. Notable for its abundance was the Philippine Jungle Crow, with 13 individuals sighted, showcasing its adaptability to the mountain environment.

Ashleigh and Cooper Tamayo's observations demonstrate the value of conservation efforts in protecting the unique ecosystems found in Mt. Natib. By exploring and recording the region's avifauna, we can better understand the intricate relationships between species and their habitats.
