On January 8, 2025, bird enthusiast Helen Ong embarked on a 26-minute birding trip to Corinthian Gardens in the National Capital Region of Manila, Philippines. Accompanied by nary a soul, she managed to spot 5 species of birds, showcasing the lush gardens' biodiversity.

The highlight of her trip was the Coppersmith Barbet, a striking bird with a bright orange-yellow chime on its chest. Helen was thrilled to see two individuals flitting about the trees. The Black-naped Oriole, with its vibrant orange and black plumage, made a solo appearance, singing its beautiful song.

The gardens' verdant canopy was also home to two families of Philippine Jungle Crows, their glossy feathers glistening in the morning light. Crested Mynas, with their distinctive crests and ear tufts, were spotted in pairs, searching for food among the lush foliage. The Eurasian Tree Sparrow, a common but delightful sight, was seen in a flock of six, chirping away as they foraged for seeds and insects.

This short but satisfying trip demonstrates the Corinthian Gardens' potential as a haven for birdwatchers. With its diverse array of bird species and serene atmosphere, it's an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts seeking a peaceful morning stroll.
