Birdwatching Bonanza on Palawan's Rugged Roads
A recent birding trip along the Napsan – Apurawan Road in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines, yielded an exciting haul of avian delights. Led by Rene Reyes, a team of bird enthusiasts spent just 12 minutes observing the scenic road, covering a distance of 0.15 miles.
The outing was particularly notable for the sighting of two Great Slaty Woodpeckers (), a species known for their impressive size. Rene described the birds as "very large woodpeckers" – a fitting characterization, given their robust build.
The team also caught a glimpse of a solitary Palawan Babbler (), whose melodic song was the only auditory cue for this elusive species. Unfortunately, a visual sighting proved challenging due to the bird's elusive nature.
Rene's enthusiasm for the trip is evident in the brief comments accompanying the observation. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for birdwatching, this intrepid explorer added a personal touch to the report, making it a pleasure to revisit this exciting birding adventure.
