Fairmount Hills Birding Adventure
On January 7, 2025, Bea Monica Reyes embarked on a morning birding trip in Fairmount Hills, Rizal, Philippines. Over a 1-hour period, she observed 11 bird species, showcasing the area's rich avifaunal diversity.
The trip started with a pair of Rock Pigeon (Feral Pigeon) sightings, followed by a single Eurasian Moorhen and a duo of Collared Kingfishers. The Black-naped Oriole stole the show with its majestic presence, with four individuals spotted throughout the trip. The White-breasted Woodswallow, a common bird in the region, made an appearance with six individuals.
Other notable sightings included the Long-tailed Shrike, Philippine Bulbul, Yellow-vented Bulbul, and Gray-streaked Flycatcher. The latter's gray streaks were a distinctive feature, making it easy to identify. Three Garden Sunbirds flitted about the area, their vibrant plumage a treat for the eyes.
The Eurasian Tree Sparrow rounded out the list, with four individuals spotted throughout the trip. According to Bea Monica Reyes, her enthusiasm for birding and the thrill of the trip were palpable throughout.
