Birds Abound in Rizalville, Laguna
On January 7, 2025, a solo bird enthusiast embarked on a 6-minute stationary observation trip in Rizalville, San Pablo City, Laguna, Philippines. The brief but fruitful expedition yielded a total of 5 bird species, providing a glimpse into the region's avifaunal diversity.
The observer was treated to the sight of two Golden-bellied Gerygone (Gerygone flaviventris), a small, insectivorous bird known for its melodious song. Also spotted was a single Philippine Pied-Fantail (Pitta philippensis), a striking species with its black plumage and vibrant yellow head.
Other notable sightings included a solitary Pygmy Flowerpecker (Dicaeum anoptrum), one of the smallest bird species in the country, and a lone Garden Sunbird (Nectarinia asiatica), a common sight in urban gardens and parks. In addition, a group of three Eurasian Tree Sparrows (Passer montanus) foraged for food in the area, completing the observer's bird list.
