Birds Abound in Bislig Lowlands: A Thrilling Birding Adventure
On January 6, 2025, birding enthusiasts Russel Orodio and Dindo Karl Mari Malonzo embarked on a fascinating journey through the Bislig lowlands, specifically along PICOP Road 42 in Agusan del Sur, Philippines. This 1 hour and 29-minute traveling party covered a distance of 4.73 kilometers, spotting an impressive 16 species of birds during their excursion.
The team's first sighting was the White-eared Brown-Dove (Short-billed), followed by the Black-faced Coucal and Pygmy Swiftlet, which were abundant, with a total count of 5 individuals. The Mindanao Hornbill and Coppersmith Barbet were also seen, with counts of 7 and 2, respectively.
Other notable sightings included the White-bellied Woodpecker, Philippine Falconet, Blue-crowned Racquet-tail, Philippine Hanging-Parrot, Scarlet Minivet, Philippine Oriole, Black-naped Monarch, and Rufous Paradise-Flycatcher (Southern). The party also spotted the Philippine Bulbul, Coleto, Little Slaty Flycatcher, Ameline Swiftlet, Asian Palm Swift, Western Hooded Pitta, and Mindanao Blue-Fantail.
